Storm Rising is the coaching app for the Storm Rising team: players book coaching sessions with the team's coaches, on iPhone and Android. This page explains what it keeps about you, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who runs Storm Rising
Storm Rising is run by Jacob Morley in the United Kingdom, who is the controller of your personal data under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). If you have a question about your data, email jake@jacobmorley.co.uk.
What we keep
If you are a player
- Your Patreon account number and the name on your Patreon account, which Patreon gives us when you log in with it, and which Patreon tiers you belong to. We do not receive your Patreon email address, password or payment details.
- The keys Patreon gives us so that we can check your membership again, at most every 12 hours.
- The real name, Discord username and FACEIT name you enter.
- Your bookings: the coach, day, time and length, the price, any member discount, and whether the session was paid, refunded or cancelled.
If you are a coach
- Your name, email address and password. The password is stored scrambled (hashed), so nobody, including us, can read it.
- The name players see, your bio and skills, your hourly rate and session lengths, and your weekly hours and days off.
- Your Stripe account reference, your earnings and your withdrawals. Stripe collects the identity and bank details it needs to pay you directly; we do not see or keep them.
For everyone
- A sign in token, so you stay signed in. It expires after 90 days, or when you sign out.
- Short lived security records, such as failed attempts to enter a code or password from an IP address, held in memory for a few minutes to stop guessing.
We do not collect your location, contacts, photos or card details, and the app has no adverts, analytics or tracking tools.
Why we keep it, and our lawful basis
- To provide the app (contract): signing you in, checking you are a team member, letting you book and pay for sessions, showing coaches who they are coaching, and paying coaches.
- To keep the service safe and fair (legitimate interests): the team code and Patreon check keep the diary for team members, and limits on repeated attempts stop abuse.
- To keep payment records (legal obligation): records of payments and refunds are kept for tax and accounting.
We never sell your data or use it for advertising.
Who sees what
Players only ever see a coach's chosen display name, never their real name. Coaches see the bookings made with them, including the player's real name, Discord username and FACEIT name, so that they can run the session. The team's administrator can see all bookings and earnings. Other players never see your details or your bookings.
Service providers
We use these companies to run Storm Rising. Each only handles what it needs to:
- Hetzner Online, which hosts our server and database in Germany. Your phone talks to it over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
- Patreon, which handles logging in and team membership. Your Patreon account is covered by Patreon's own privacy policy.
- Stripe, which takes payments for sessions (card, Apple Pay and Google Pay), makes refunds and pays coaches. Your card details go straight to Stripe and never reach us. Stripe's own privacy policy also applies.
Germany is covered by the UK's data adequacy rules. Patreon and Stripe may handle data in the United States, under the safeguards UK law requires. We only share data otherwise if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
We keep your details for as long as you use Storm Rising. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your details and your Patreon keys within one month. Records of payments and refunds are kept for as long as UK tax law requires, normally six years, and then deleted. Sign in tokens and security records expire on their own.
Deleting your account
Email jake@jacobmorley.co.uk, or message a coach on Discord, with the Discord username on your account, and we will delete it. A coach can ask for their account to be closed the same way, once any earnings have been paid out.
Children
Storm Rising is not for children under 13. If you are under 18, you need the permission of a parent or guardian to pay for sessions.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it or delete it, object to how we use it, ask us to limit how we use it, or ask for it in a common format to take elsewhere. Email jake@jacobmorley.co.uk and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how your data is handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it, and we will tell you in the app if the change is significant.
